Hello, I'm Margaret.
This motion was thought up by our chairman, Shawn.
The seniors introduced serious and formal debate to the new debators in this session.
The debators were enthusiastic and tried rebutting and points of information.
They were able to speak out and express their points effectively.
The only problem would be the research done. Experience and suggestions by our coach would improve that.
ne step at a time, nearer to success with every debate training session.
Debators were attentive and knew exactly how and what to rebutt each speaker.
The most important part of the debators would be their ability to think on the spot.

Wow! Looks like the blog was deserted for a long time. I think its time for me to post. Hi, I am Li Qim. I will post about this week's debate.

This week, we started with some ice breaker games. Then we start debating. We are divided into 5 teams. We have 3 motions.

1.THBT saseme street is bad - Charmaine's grp VS Shawn's grp
2.THBT chocolate is better than strawberry - Jie Yi's grp VS Margaret's grp
3.THBT parents should listen to children - (me)Li Qim's grp VS Shawn's grp

We managed to complete debating for the first 2 motion. We will continue with the third debate next week. Ok thats all for today! Bye!

THBT co-ed schools are better than single sex school


The motion today is …
Firstly I would like to begin this debate by defining the motion…

Definition:

Co-ed schools : … EG: evergreen sec, admiralty sec

Single sex school: … EG: CHIJ, RI, St Marge


(In this motion there are two important key terms; mixed-sex education and single-sex education.)

Firstly I would like to define the term co-education, it is the integrated education of male and female students in the same institution.

Secondly I would like to define single-sex education; it is the practice of conducting education where male and female students attend separate classes in September.

Context

In this debate I as proposition would like to clarify that this debate shall not be limited to any specific country but worldwide ??? ( 1st world , 3rd world, Islamic states?) .

1st world liberal democratic countries ( 99.9 % of the time)

Case division

Now, on to my case division. I as the first proposition speaker would be focusing on

preparing pupils for the outside world.


While my 2nd proposition speaker would be touching on
opportunity to learn each other strengths


point 1: preparing pupils for the outside world.

Now on to my substantives. Co education acts as a platform to prepare pupils for the outside world. If you look at co education school philosophically, in terms of your vision for the world and what you want your children to contribute and strive to it. You have got to make sure they have the right tools and properly equipped and co education does that well. We think of people of all ethic background and different sex’s that come together in class room and learn skills Such as good communication and the ability to cooperate with the opposite gender for their future careers.. In today world the advantage are noticed. We have man and woman who have to work together to complete assignment, work in groups led by boys and girls and have to live together in the society in their later lies and practically that is the way the world is going around.

in the work force if your boss or employees are of the opposite gender from you and you are from single sex school you might not communicate and behave in a comfortable manner and might not quickly adapt to the new environment which would cause a negative impact on your work. This is not the case if you are from co-ed school.


According to the study done by Harvard Psychology department in 2008, experts found out that … The formative years of children are the best time to expose them to the company of the other gender, in order that they may learn each other behavior and be better prepared for adult lives.

Thus co-ed schools are a platform for students to develop into rounded, capable personalities who are able to deal with anything that the modern working world can throw at them. in schools students can learn from their mistakes but however in the working world outside, every mistake made is critical. To save them from embarrassment and awkwardness during an adult phase of life it is very important for them to pick up these significant skills as early as possible. Example some critics ( ??? who are these phantom ppl ???) form single sex schooling in the us claim that the environment from single sex school are artificial and hiders students development of social skills the teenagers feel that it is hard to natural relate to the opposite gender. Thus co-education provides much more opportunities to help the pupils to be well rounded. Therefore go with the proposition. Hence this motion must stand!
